We were informed today that the last Megabus service to be operated by Stagecoach Winchester is on Sunday 18 May. From Monday 19 May the Megabus services to both London and Manchester will be driven by Stagecoach Portsmouth drivers!
So I, and the other 8 Megabus drivers on the rota at Winchester, aren’t needed on Megabus any more. We now have a choice of driving around Winchester either 4 long days per week or 5 slightly shorter days per week, or ……. we can quit.
Welcome to ‘another day on the buses’ the blog of an EX-megabus driver. Not that I have much desire to change the theme and direction of this blog :-( Things may go quiet now.
Bye
What a stupid over-simplistic comment…To begin with who says he’s out of a job? Last time I looked no redundancies were being called for…
As regards market-pricing, at least Stagecoach is TRYING to develop new markets in this fashion…who else is? You can be absolutely certain that neither central nor local government have no venture funding to try out the market.
And of course if costs exceed revenue, then something needs to be done…unless that is, you’re backed up by a socialist government with bottomless pockets…so where’s that nowdays? Certainly not in the UK where Gordon hasn’t two brass farthings to rub together… unless of course you’re Northern Rock…
Market pricing has forced you out of a job. This demonstrates that no matter how well you have done your job, you were only a number to Stagecoach. Countless Stagecoach depots have ceased doing Megabus diagrams due to cost issues. The content for your blog will be reduced and sadly missed in the public domain. Please continue to blog on other issues.
So what happens to the Winchester change overs now? I’m not a driver but I use the coach twice a week usually from Birmingham to Portsmouth – I thought the whole point of the Winchester stop was because it was right outside the stagecoach depot there, making changeovers a doddle. If it’s run out of Portsmouth, does that mean drivers being bussed (or driving) up to Winchester to do the changeover, or will there no longer be a changeover?
Sad to see it being changed anyway, theres a good team at the Winchester depot, and its a much friendlier service than NatEx
The Worthing drivers also seem to be surplus to requirements…and I believe the Portsmouth involvement is only a couple of shifts per day in total…
Sorry to hear the news. Just some of the changes going on at megabus at present. Thanks to all Winchester drivers who have had to put up with late running from VCS from the Cheltenham guys being late. Hope this did not spoil things too much. We will miss you. Hope things work out ok,and whatever happens keep smiling, and I hope you continue this blog. Good luck.
so sorry to hear the news of mega bus moving. all 8 drivers have been very nice and helpfull when my wife has travelled from oxford to bournemouth on your buses, she says to tell you thank you for being friendly to her and our daughter when they have had to wait in winchester and that she will miss you all and thank you. good luck with what you all decide to do.
Thought of ‘jumping ship’?
