I had an early start today, book on 04:50, drive out of service to Bournemouth and then leave as the 06:00 to London. The next pick up point is Ringwood where I had 6 people on my list as having bought tickets, I got there about 4 minutes early and found no one at the stop. I sat and waited patiently until the 06:30 timetable departure and went on my way. It’s not uncommon for MegaBus control to ask us for copies of our tachographs – some passengers, when they’ve missed the bus, ring MegaBus control and say they were at the bus stop before time and haven’t seen a bus so “It must have run early”! Thankfully a tachograph doesn’t lie and should one or more of this mornings 6 try to claim I ran early I have my proof of arrival at 06:26, static until 06:30 and then on my way. Before anyone says “Why don’t you wait a few minutes for the non-shows?” I’ll answer that by saying you could be there all day! In 18 months of driving MegaBus I’ve never had EVERYONE turn up for the bus.
On my way home I dropped into Sainsburys and as so often happens when I go into Sainsburys I get cross and wonder why I ever bother shopping there. Went to buy a pack of scones and saw a big notice in front of the scones saying ‘Buy two, save 30p’ while printed on the pack it said ‘Buy 2 for £1’. What’s wrong with that you may wonder, well the single price for a pack is 62p. So I asked the bakery Manager to tell me what I’d be charged at the till “£1 for the 2 which is 30p off the price of 2”. “No it’s not I said”. He didn’t seem to grasp what this was about, he thought I was playing mathematical games with him so we took it slowly. He accepted that two packs would normally cost £1.24 so if 30p was deducted for buying the two packs the cost would be 94p. But, the pack itself said ‘Buy 2 for £1’. Bingo! He got it but didn’t have a clue what I’d have to pay at the till :-( I know we’re only talking a few pence here but it’s the carelessness of it which makes me cross. Everytime I go into a Sainsburys I spot something wrong. Sainsbury’s are much worse than Tesco for this sort of thing.
P.S. The memory card didn’t arrive which is why I’ve had time to write this!
