Yesterday we returned from our week in Majorca flying EasyJet. The flight was due to leave Palma at 22:10 but about 30 minutes before this time, when boarding would normally commence, the board flashed up ‘Delayed, boarding 22:06’. Fair enough. 22:06 came and went without any update and then at 23:00 they announced boarding would commence. Once on board the Captain apologised for the delay which had been caused by the flight leaving Gatwick late. This wasn’t a big delay for a flight but it made me cross because the 22:06 boarding time was a known untruth! When that was posted the aircraft had already departed Gatwick and was en route to Palma – the true arrival time would therefore have been known to the minute. Why not just come out with the truth straight away and say delayed until 23:00? Everyone could then have had a coffee/beer etc rather than stand around waiting at the gate.
Megabus don’t have information boards at Greenline coach station in London but the controllers do try and let people know what’s going on. I’ve not heard any of them make wild claims like a delayed bus will be in soon. They give out the information as known “The inbound bus is still on the M4 at Swindon etc”. I think most peole would rather be told the truth than be ‘kept happy’ being told what the teller thinks they want to hear!
PS The weather in Majorca was superb. 30C everyday but we did see a cloud …….. it passed over during breakfast on Tuesday.
